After Obama's visit to China last week, a former Chinese foreign ministry official said the U.S and China have the most important bilateral relationship in the world. China holds approximately $1.4 trillion of assets in U.S. dollars, which makes them our biggest creditor nation. Obama and the Prime Minister discussed nuclear proliferation, and the economy, but because of recent controversy over human rights issues in China's prisons, critics of the president are saying he did not discuss these issues in great enough detail. Gao, said former Chinese official, had this to say, "China's foreign policy is underlined by the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs. If it is only up to the United States to discuss human rights issues in China, this is unbalanced." Obama also mentioned putting personal problems aside for the current overcasting financial problems.
