A Japanese coal mining company will try using a new environmental protection technology called Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). This technology was spearheaded by Toshiba Corporation, and includes trapping gasses in the "post combustion" stage of coal burning, and then separating the CO2 from the rest and storing it in a liquid form. This first implementation of this technology is will be a test to see how well it does, and if all goes well the next step will be to trap the CO2 deep underground, far away from the atmosphere.
