South Korean Cloning Researcher Arrested

Hwang Woo-suk, a scientist who gained international attention in 2004 for claiming t have cloned human embryonic stem cells was arrested earlier this week for embezzling approximately 850,000 USD in government research funds, 2 million USD in donations based on falsified research, and illegally possessing human embryos. He was sentenced to two years in prison and will have his license taken away for another three. His claims of cloning human embryos were denounced in 2006 when he admitted to lying in some of his research.
