UN criticizes North Korea Over Human Rights

North Korea is not an poor country in terms of the treasury, yet 40% of North Koreans are starving and and there has been limited global aid do to the reaction to North Korea's nuclear weapons program. North korea is more abundant in natural resources than its southern counterpart and its exports amounted to several billions of dollars. This society is reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984, in that the citizens are kept impoverished as a means of control. Also, experts say that the rights of the people are only getting worse, to the point where citizens live in constant fear of abduction, arrest, abuse, and public execution. Women are still highly discriminated against, and there is a strict national dress code where women may only where skirts despite how uncomfortable this could make them in certain situations. Along with this all the information in and out of North Korea is screened and filtered by the government so the people cannot know about the modern world around them. The UN has been urged to take some sort of action to help the human and civil rights of these people in North Korea.
